Crude oil inventories up, imports down – US petroleum data for week ending March 25

US crude oil inventories increased by 2.3 million barrels from previous week

According to the US Energy Information Administration, US crude oil refinery inputs averaged over 16.2 million barrels per day during the week ending March 25, 2016, 414,000 barrels per day more than the previous week’s average.

Highlights:

• Refineries operated at 90.4% of their operable capacity
• Gasoline production decreased, averaging over 9.4 million b/d
• Distillate fuel production increased, averaging over 4.9 million b/d.
• U.S. crude oil imports averaged over 7.7 million b/d, down by 636,000 barrels per day from previous week
• Over the last four weeks, crude oil imports averaged about 8 million b/d, 9.8% above same four-week period last year
• Total motor gasoline imports (including both finished gasoline and gasoline blending components) averaged 516,000 b/d.
• Distillate fuel imports averaged 98,000 b/d
• Crude oil inventories (excluding those in the Strategic Petroleum Reserve) increased by 2.3 million barrels from the previous week. At 534.8 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are at historically high levels for this time of year
• Gasoline inventories decreased by 2.5 million barrels last week, but are well above the upper limit of the average range. Both finished gasoline inventories and blending components inventories decreased last week
• Distillate fuel inventories decreased by 1.1 million barrels but are above the upper limit of the average range for this time of year
• Propane/propylene inventories rose 0.6 million barrels and are above the upper limit of the average range. Total commercial petroleum inventories increased by 1.5 million barrels. Total products supplied over the last four-week period averaged 19.5 million b/d, up by 2.2% from the same period last year
• Over the last four weeks, motor gasoline product supplied averaged 9.4 million b/d, up by 5% from same period last year
• Distillate fuel product supplied averaged 3.7 million b/d over last four weeks, down by 3.4% from same period last year.
• Jet fuel product supplied is down 1.9% compared to the same four-week period last year
