Carbon tax part of tax code overhaul

On Tuesday, the Washington Post reported the Trump administration is exploring a carbon tax and a value-added tax as part of the planned tax code overhaul, according to an unidentified administration official who has been briefed on the matter.

The new tax options are under consideration by President Trump as his administration looks for ways to fund his promised tax cuts in middle class and corporate taxes.

The Post says administration officials have not made a final decision and they are still reviewing alternatives.

According to the newspaper, the proposed taxes show the administration is looking for ways to deal with challenges presented by the possible border adjustment tax that has been considered by the Republicans.
