Oilfield services company Baker Hughes Inc. says the number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas internationally is down by over one-third since June of last year.

Worldwide, the rig count for Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, United States and Canada is at 2,136, down from 3,445 counted in June, 2014.

The June 2015 rig count in North America shows 990 rigs were exploring or developing oil or natural gas, up 21 over May, 2014.  An increase of 49 rigs in Canada accounts for the North American bump over last month.

The average US rig count for June, 2015 was 861, down 28 from May, 2015 and down 1,000 from June of 2014.  Canadian rig count is down 111 from the 240 counted in June, 2014.

In June of 2015, the international rig count (which includes Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Asia Pacific) was 1,146, down 12 from 1,158 counted in May, 2015 and down 198 from 1,344 rigs counted in June, 2014.

The worldwide rig count for June 2015 was 2,136, up 9 from the 2,127 counted in May 2015, and down 1,309 from the 3,445 counted in June 2014.
