HOUSTON, Texas – Milestone Environmental Services is building a new oilfield waste disposal facility near Pecos, Texas, the company announced Thursday.

The new facility which is full service, is the sixth to join the five existing locations in South and East Texas, and will be capable of taking waste streams including oil-based and water-based muds/drilling fluids, flowback, tank bottoms, dirty water and produced water.

Milestone says it accepts oilfield waste streams and injects them over a mile below the earth’s surface, where they are safely sequestered beneath multiple confining layers of stone.

“We are pleased to bring professional oilfield waste management solutions to a part of the Permian Basin that has historically lacked critical environmental infrastructure,” said CEO Gabriel Rio.

“With the addition of our Pecos facility, Milestone will be positioned to provide Permian Basin E&P operators with a safe, environmentally sustainable solution for the disposal of oilfield waste that is dependable and easily accessible.”

Milestone says it has taken its proven design to the next level of operational excellence, improving efficiency and handling capacity, and reduce unloading and washout times for E&P customers.

“The team approach we used in the re-design has resulted in an improved, highly efficient facility that differentiates Milestone by offering the shortest cycle times in the industry,” said Gary Olliff, Senior CP, Engineering.

The Pecos facility marks Milestone’s first entrance into the Permian Basin.

In 2016, Milestone says it plans to construct multiple new facilities in the region and other major US E&P basins.

The new facilities will provide proximate, more efficient options for customers actively drilling and producing in these key shale plays, the company said in a press release.

Milestone has been a provider of injectable oilfield waste disposal, operating for more than 20 years and is one of the first in the U.S. to commercially use slurry injection, a process that has set new standards for efficiency and environmental security for managing oilfield wastes.
