Gas prices increase as summer nears
As the summer season approaches and refineries make changes to gasoline blends, gas prices in Texas and across the United States are rising.
On Thursday, AAA Texas reported the statewide average rose 3 cents this week, ending up at $1.90 per gallon. Nationwide, gasoline prices were up by 6 cents, reaching an average of $2.10 per gallon.
In Texas, Amarillo drivers enjoyed the lowest prices in the state. Prices at the pump in the northwestern Texas city averaged $1.80 a gallon. On average, Dallas drivers paid $1.97 a gallon, the highest average price in Texas when filling up this week.
According to AAA Texas officials, retail gasoline prices are going to fluctuate as the supply of summer-blend gasoline makes its way to market. Analysts say this summer, the gasoline market will likely be well supplied.
At $1.83 a gallon, Louisiana registered the lowest gas prices in the United States while California at $2.79 had the highest gasoline prices in the country.
