Coal ban limited federal coal mining leases
Next week, US President Donald Trump is expected to lift the ban on new federal coal mining leases and begin the process of eliminating other Obama-era climate change initiatives, according to a White House official.
“Rescinding federal coal leasing moratorium is part of that executive order, which has lots of different components, including the Clean Power Plan,” the official told Reuters on Wednesday by email. The message confirmed the order was scheduled to come next week.
Former President Barack Obama initiated the Clean Power Plan as a centerpiece initiative to fight climate change. The plan required states to cut carbon dioxide emissions from power plants.
