AUSTIN, Texas- Texans for LNG, an education campaign to raise public awareness of the value of liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities in Texas, today announced its official launch with former U.S. Trade Representative and Dallas Mayor Ron Kirk serving as the campaign’s chairman.

LNG export facilities are poised to drive a new wave of economic development in communities throughout Texas. According to a recent study by ICF International, the Texas LNG export sector will bring significant jobs to Texas and inject tens of billions of dollars into the state’s economy by 2035.

The LNG export facilities that have been proposed along parts of the Texas coast would account for combined capital investments that could exceed $40 billion.

“There is growing global demand for Texas LNG and developing facilities here that are safe and environmentally sound to meet that demand is a great opportunity for Texas that makes sense,” said Ambassador Kirk.

“The benefits that LNG export facilities will bring to Texas are substantial, contributing billions of dollars in investments and thousands of jobs to the state.”

The benefits associated with LNG export facilities in Texas will be delivered safely. LNG is the same as the natural gas used by more than 65 million Americans to heat and cool their homes, only in a liquid state so that it can be safely and easily transported.

While LNG export facilities may be new to Texas, LNG is not new. LNG facilities have operated safely for more than 50 years, a record that is the envy of others in the oil and gas industry.

In order for these facilities to be built in Texas, they must obtain regulatory approvals at the federal, state, and local levels to ensure that they will be operated safely and have minimal or no impact on the environment.
