US rig count remained unchanged this past week.

On Friday, Baker Hughes released its weekly US rig count numbers which showed the overall number of rigs exploring for oil or natural gas remained unchanged.

Louisiana gained five rigs during the week of October 16 to 23 while Texas lost five rigs.

Ohio was up by two rigs and Alaska and Oklahoma both added one rig.

New Mexico and West Virginia were both down by one rig and Kansas and Pennsylvania both recorded two less rigs last week.

The number of rigs operating in the US this week compared to the same week last year is down 1140, from 1927 to 787.

In Canada, eight new oil rigs and one new gas rig were reported, bringing the total number of oil rigs to 84 and gas rigs to 106.  One year ago today, 232 oil rigs and 194 gas rigs were operational.
